Native to tropical and sub-tropical parts ofthe Americas, it can fly up to 500 kilometres
andhasspreadquicklyaroundtheworld.
ThepestisalreadywellestablishedinSouthEastAsia andIndonesia,andcanbeactive
year-round in tropical areas such as North Queensland. Fall armyworm has not been
eradicatedanywhereelseintheworld.
Identifyingfallarmyworm
Larvaearelightcolouredwithalargerdarkerhead.Astheydevelop,theybecomebrowner
withwhitelengthwisestripesandalsodevelopdarkspotswithspines.
Adult moths are 32 to 40 mm in length wing tip to wing tip, with a brown or grey
forewingandawhitehindwing.
Malefallarmywormadultshavemorepatternsandadistinctwhitespotoneachoftheir
forewings.
