Maize is cultivated on 9700 hectares in BBN. Farmers grow maize here as a

destroyed the standing crops of the farmers. Its outbreak has been more
visible in Baddi's Malpur, Kishanpura, Manpura, Kharumi, Kheda, Horticulture,
Rajpura, Kirpalpur panchayats.
Pola Ram Chaudhary, former head of Malpur Panchayat and a progressive
farmer, said that no field in his panchayat is spared from the wrath of this
pest. The fields of every farmer's field have been destroyed. Surprisingly,
even after spraying insecticides, there is no effect on it. Farmer Avtar Saini of
Kheda, Amarchand Thakur of Dumanwala, Prem Chaudhary of Nalagarh,
Surendra Kumar of Bhogpur, Vinod Thakur of Baruna told that the snail has
destroyed the crops of the farmers.
On the other hand, Dr. Prem Thakur, the subject matter expert of the
Agriculture Department, said that this outbreak had come from South India last
year. Last year its impact was less but this year it is being seen in entire
BBN and Himachal. The plants which have got this disease, farmers should
bury them in the soil or burn them. Farmers will have to turn to pulse crops
to end its outbreak. Its outbreak can be stopped by adopting crop rotation.
