Case: Bulbs that are hosts of Xylella fastidiosa for growth in open
quarantineEffective 21 Feb 2024
Permitted species ? Bulbs produced under a certified Netherlands scheme
Import Conditions
Import conditions define the biosecurity requirements which must be met for your
import. Where import conditions have been developed, they will be listed below.
Further information on importing live plants can be found on the department's
websiteOpens in a new window. The introduction of emergency measures for
Xylella fastidiosa on affected BKD certified bulbs sourced from the Netherlands
will be postponed. This will allow for the import of affected BKD certified bulbs
under current import conditions.
The department will continue to monitor the status of Xylella fastidiosa in Europe
and the Netherlands and will notify importers of any decisions or proposed
changes to import conditions for affected BKD certified bulbs. These import
conditions apply to bulbs imported without peat packaging
It is the importer¡¯s responsibility to notify the department in the import permit
application if they intend to import bulbs in peat packaging. Additional permit
conditions will be applied on a case by case assessment to manage the
biosecurity risks associated with the peat material. These import conditions only
apply to permitted species of the following types of bulbs certified under the
Bloembollenkeuringsdienst (BKD) Scheme, Netherlands: Hippeastrum, Hyacinthus
and Narcissus.
Please refer to the list of scientific names for permitted species. If a plant is
permitted at the species level then all subordinate taxa (e.g. varieties, subspecies,
forms and subforms.) of that species are also permitted. Similarly, if a plant is
permitted at a genus level, then all species are permitted etc. Where the parents
of a hybrid are permitted the hybrid plant may be imported without a separate
BICON case. Imported hybrids must be clearly labelled with their full parentage
for identification by the department.
If the species you wish to import is not listed but you believe it is a synonym of
a permitted species please contact the Biosecurity Imports Support Team for an
assessment. Prior to the importation of goods into Australian territory, a valid
import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is
