Hybrids are permitted if all parents used for the hybridisation are listed as
permitted. Imported hybrids must be clearly labelled with their full parentage for
identification by the department. Import conditions prior to arrival in Australian
territory Prior to the importation of goods into Australian territory, a valid import
permit issued by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is
required. An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit
application to the department (use the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of this
page). Important reminder to importers. Goods that require a valid import permit,
but arrive without one, including where an import permit application is currently
under consideration, will be directed for export from Australian territory or
required to be destroyed in an approved manner. The plants must be free from
Xylella fastidiosa.
To demonstrate compliance with this requirement you must present the following
on a Phytosanitary certificate: The additional statement ¡°Plant material in this
consignment and its parent stock were grown only in [insert country] which is
free from Xylella fastidiosa." Consignments not accompanied by a phytosanitary
certificate endorsed with the additional declaration must be tested for Xylella
fastidiosa at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Post Entry
Quarantine (PEQ) Facility (Mickleham, VIC), exported or disposed of at the
importer¡¯s expense. The species of the plant/s must be identified. To
demonstrate compliance with this requirement you must present the following on a
Phytosanitary certificate, Manufacturer's declaration, Invoice or Packing
declaration: The full botanical name. All plant material must be free from soil,
disease symptoms and other extraneous contamination of biosecurity concern.
Plant material must be labelled with botanical names including both genus and
species. Unidentified nursery stock is subject to export or disposal at cost to the
importer. Plant material must be packed in clean, new packaging. For non-FCL
consignments the packaging must be secure, rigid and insect proof. Sealed
cardboard cartons in a sound undamaged state are acceptable. Packing material
can be used to help reduce the risk of damage to the plant during transport. For
a list of acceptable packaging material which may be used for transport of plants
please refer to packing materials for the packaging of plants . For shipments
arriving by commercial air or mail, plant material packed into boxes or secondary
containers must weigh less than or equal to 20 kg in total weight.
