Avian Influenza (LPAI), colibacillosis, duck virus hepatitis and others. Also, a total of 379
cases which were reported on suspicion of other poultry diseases were tested for HPAI. Eight
were confirmed HPAI positive.
Farms with epidemiological links to confirmed IPs were placed under movement restrictions
and tested. Of the 904 farms tested, 54 farms were confirmed positive for HPAI.
Because ducks exhibit only mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, nationwide surveillance
was conducted to look for evidence of sub-clinical infection in duck farms. Surveillance
included antibody testing conducted by regional veterinary services and antigen testing of
cloacal swabs, tracheal swabs and fecal samples by NVRQS and certified universitylabs. Final
confirmatory tests were conducted at the NVRQS. A total of 1,329 farms were tested, of
which 240 farms required confirmatory testing by the NVRQS. One HPAI infected farm was
confirmed.

Surveillance of movement control zones is required before movement restrictions can be lifted
and must show no evidence of HPAI infection. A total of 278 farms were tested and one
farm was confirmed HPAI positive.
From April, wild bird surveillance consisted of testing dead birds submitted from various
sources, and testing samples collected from captured wild birds. Three hundred and five dead
birds were submitted for testing and all samples were negative for AI.
The wild bird capture surveillance is focused on testing migratory species that are known to
come from countries with HPAI, susceptible species with previous reported cases and bird
flocks located in water bodies in the vicinity of the infected premises. As of June total of
505 birds were sampled and tested.
