armyworm feeding: late autumn and winter (low to moderate risk) and late spring
(higherrisk).Armywormscurrentlyincroparelikelytopupateandmigrateawaybefore
the major risk period in spring. For winter outbreaks (during tillering) economic
thresholds of 8-10 larvae per m2 provide a guide for spray decisions. For spring
outbreaks (during crop ripening) spraying is recommended when the density of larvae
exceeds 1-3 per m2 depending on the timing of harvest, green matter available and
larvaldevelopmentstage.

At Wuddina pasture had to be resown in some patches, and a small area of midslope
ground on cereals at Loxton were impacted. Caterpillars have also been observed on
cereals at Tumby Bay, Cleve and Minnipa. Only a few cutworms (alongside low
numbers of armyworms) have been lingering on medic pasture and weeds around
Roseworthy, but numbers are very low and of no concern. They have also been
reportedinmixedpopulationsonagrassandlegumehaycropatKingscote.
